As we head into the winter months, we want to remind our visitors that none of the SCC sites along the waterway receive winter maintenance. Most SCC sites remain publicly accessible; however, they are not maintained from November 1 to April 30. The gate at Lock 5 will be closed on November 30, 2025.
Please be advised:
Winter Conditions: Because there is no winter maintenance (no snow removal, ice management, or debris clearing), surfaces may be icy, snow covered, and natural hazards such as fallen branches or trees may be present.
Access at Your Own Risk: Visitors who choose to access SCC sites or trails during the winter season do so at their own risk. SCC assumes no liability for injuries sustained on unmaintained terrain.
Shubie Park Trail Information
Thanks to HRM Parks staff certain trails within Shubie Park will have designated winter maintenance. We encourage you to use these maintained trails for your winter recreation needs. You can find specific details on which trails are maintained by visiting the HRM Shubie Park Trails Winter Maintenance Map.
We look forward to welcoming you back when all sites officially reopen in Spring 2026 for you to explore once again!
