Have a wild encounter
Experience the peace, natural beauty, and ruggedness of the Shubenacadie Canal Waterway. From the wilds of the inland river to a number of parks just minutes from downtown, the opportunities are endless.
In Shubie Park, you can explore scenic trails along the calm waters of the canal. Majestic old-growth trees line the path, including a hemlock that is estimated to be 178 years old! You may also encounter a number of animals, including ducks, birds, squirrels, turtles, and even a beaver or two! Further up the waterway, visitors can enjoy the spectacular sight of majestic bald eagles soaring above the river as they hunt for fish and small land prey on its grassy banks.
