Outdoor site bookings are for large community events | fundraisers with more than 20 people and film crews.
Family gatherings and small events (less than 20 people) do not require a booking. However, please check calendar below when planning your personal events.
Booking Outdoor Space with the Shubenacadie Canal Commission
The Shubenacadie Canal Commission (SCC) manages select areas of Shubie Park, including the greenspace surrounding the Fairbanks Centre at 54 Locks Road and the adjacent parking lot. If you’re planning an event in these areas, please review the following important guidelines and requirements.
Conditions of Use
All bookings on SCC-managed outdoor property are subject to the following terms:
1. Insurance
All events must carry liability insurance. The Shubenacadie Canal Commission must be listed as an additional insured for a minimum of $2 million.
Proof of insurance must be submitted at least one week prior to the event date.
2. Contract & Damage Deposit
To confirm a booking, event organizers must:
Complete request form below, and
Provide a $500 security/damage deposit.
This deposit is refundable following a post-event inspection, provided no damage has occurred, the site is left clean, and the event stayed within its contracted time. Additional charges will apply for damage, extra cleanup, or extended use.
3. Shared Public Space
SCC outdoor spaces are public parks. No event has exclusive use of the site or equipment. Event plans must:
Avoid blocking trails or access points
Respect park visitors
Ensure all equipment and activities remain within approved areas
4. Set-Up, Decorations & Cleanup
Event setup and breakdown must occur within your contracted timeframe
All garbage and recycling must be removed from the site
Decorations must not damage the grounds (no nails, screws, wire, or adhesives)
The following are not permitted: rice, birdseed, glitter, confetti, candles, sparklers, or pyrotechnics
Bubbles are allowed
5. Event Timing & Sound
Events must end by dusk
Music and amplified sound must comply with local sound ordinances
6. Vendors
If your event includes vendors:
Details must be included in the contract
Vendor zones at Shubie Park (e.g. for Wildwood Water Sports and The Bao Journey Bakery) are not available for use
7. Prohibited Substances
Alcohol and cannabis use is not permitted on SCC outdoor sites.
8. Right to Cancel
SCC reserves the right to cancel any booking if:
Public safety is at risk
There are operational concerns
The terms of use are violated
General Park Rules
All SCC-managed greenspace is provincial land and subject to the following:
Non-smoking areas
Pets must be on-leash
Do not block roadways, fire lanes, or parking access
Signage and temporary markings must be removed after your event
Public washrooms in the parking lot are maintained by Halifax Regional Municipality

Shubie Park: The vendor areas used for canoe/kayak rentals (Wildwood Water Sports) & the Lockside Canteen and patio (The Bao Journey Bakery) are reserved for these businesses. Please see map above for options for portable washrooms (orange stars). The public washrooms in the parking lot are opened daily by Halifax Regional Municipality staff.
Please try to use the space in the circled area for your event. This will allow others to use the lawn.

The Shubie Campground (30 John Brenton Drive) is privately owned and is not managed by SCC.
Step One - Confirm date is available
Check the calendar below for availability. If the date is not listed as busy, it is available to submit a booking request. Please note that we only book ONE event per day on the greenspace.
Step Two - complete form
Please complete the request use SCC outdoor site.
Payment of fees, insurance details and damage deposit are required to confirm a use of an SCC outdoor site.
Step Three- Pay FAIRBANKS CENTRE GREENSPACE USE FEES
Event use (more than 20 people): $100 per day
Filming non-profit/low budget: $100 per day
Filming commercial: $150 per day

Please note: All fees for use of the Greenspace at 54 Locks Rd. are due at time of booking. The Greenspace (outdoor space) will not be booked until fees are paid.
We accept e-transfer, credit card and cheque (made out to Shubenacadie Canal Commission).
Please note all fees are non-refundable but can be used for another date as long as it’s available. Contact the office to re-schedule.
