Enjoy Our Outdoor Spaces
The Shubenacadie Canal Commission welcomes families and small groups to enjoy our beautiful outdoor sites — no booking or fee is required for gatherings of fewer than 20-30 people.
If you’re planning a large community event, fundraiser, or film shoot, please book your space in advance at the links below.
Before planning your personal event, we encourage you to check the Shubie Park calendar below to make sure a large group event isn’t planned. While you are still able to use the lawn during large events there may not be as much space available.
If your picnic includes a BBQ, please help us keep our parks safe by reviewing our BBQ Rules for fire prevention and safety.
We also ask all visitors to take a moment to read our Stewardship and Trail Etiquette guidelines before enjoying SCC-managed spaces.
SCC Outdoor Sites suitable for events include:
Shubie Park – Lawn behind the Fairbanks Centre (Lock 3)
Portobello Incline Plane
Lock 5
General Park Rules
All SCC-managed greenspace is provincial land and subject to the following:
Non-smoking areas
Pets must be on-leash
Do not block roadways, fire lanes, or parking access
Signage and temporary markings must be removed after your event
Portable washroom placement suggestions are marked on our site map below for Shubie Park. Please contact directly for other sites.
Shubie Park Lawn
Shubie Park: The vendor areas used for canoe/kayak rentals (Wildwood Water Sports) & the Lockside Canteen and patio (The Bao Journey Bakery) are reserved for these businesses. Please see map above for options for portable washrooms (orange stars). The public washrooms in the parking lot are opened daily by Halifax Regional Municipality staff.
Please try to use the space in the circled area for your event. This will allow others to use the lawn.
