Sailing on Grand Lake

The Shubenacadie Canal watershed offers a variety of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, from paddling and boating to fishing, wildlife watching, and exploring its natural surroundings. Sailing is another wonderful way to experience these waterways.

Grand Lake has a long history of recreational sailing, with its deep waters, relatively few obstructions, and scenic coves and passages offering plenty to explore. For decades, the lake was home to a thriving fleet of Tanzer 22 sailboats, attracting enthusiasts who appreciated its unique conditions and natural beauty.

Beyond its connection to the Shubenacadie Canal's rich history, the watershed continues to be a place where people connect with nature and enjoy the water in different ways. Sailing is one example of how these waterways remain an important part of our region's recreational heritage.
