Sites are now open use caution

Update September 27:

The Shubenacadie Canal Sites are open today, September 27. Please use caution when on the trails or in the water, as repairs are ongoing. The Lock 3 fence is still broken and we are working as quickly as possible to have it fixed.

Storm causes site closures

SCC sites will close at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 23, due to Hurricane Fiona.  As well, the Saturday History Hike has been cancelled.

Sites will remain closed until they have been inspected for hazards.  For a list of closures visit our attractions link HERE

HENRY FINDLAY LOCK KEEPER OF THE YEAR AWARD

(L-R) Sylvain Allaire, Chair SCC, presenting Bill McIntyre, Past Chair, with a Forrestall Print at the Fairbanks Centre last month.

This award is presented to friends of the Shubenacadie Canal and Waterway who dedicate their time and effort towards improving this provincial heritage resource and its parklands for the enjoyment of all residents and tourists.

The commission recognized Bill McIntyre this year for his tireless work in leading the Commission as Chair from October 2016 to June 2021 . Bill actively participated not only as Chair but as a committee member on all committees. He was dedicated to supporting the commission mandate and during his tenure the Flume House project was completed, a very effective governance model was adopted, and the Transitions Project was launched. He is recognized as someone who has gone above and beyond and for that we remain grateful.

Congratulations to Bill McIntyre.
